Investing in Yourself

Let’s just start with saying that You know You best. You might be in denial. You might not be able to see it. You might be redirected. You might be encouraged to put others first. But at the end of the day, you have to live with you. You know what is working and not working for you. You may not trust yourself. You may not feel strongly about your own skills and talents. You may be uncertain.

Don’t forget about you. Don’t forget about the things that make you you. Why did you choose to go to school? Why did you fall in love with your partner? Why did you decide to become a parent? Why did you choose to stay at that job? All of these questions — personal questions — can only be answered by you. Don’t let outside opinions influence you or cross boundaries that you have put up.

When you choose to invest in yourself, you’re choosing to eat healthier for you. You’re choosing to quit smoking or drinking for you. You’re choosing to remove yourself from environments that are not conducive to your mental well-being. Because the other option is non-negotiable for you.

It’ll look like sunshine peeking through the clouds at 5:46 in the morning. It’ll feel like warm hot cocoa on a cold evening. It’ll taste like chocolate covered pretzels — sweet and salty. It’ll sound like the crackle of freshly baked bread. It’ll smell like lei pikake just placed around your neck and warmed by your skin.

You know you best. But let’s be real, we don’t always have the will to be at our best. And that’s okay too, even if your best is not 100%.

So will the choice you make today be the best one for you?
